Whether you love them or hate them, a bake sale is an important part of primary school culture and is essential for fundraising events for your children. But which recipes are a sure fire way to make sure your cake is the most popular on the table? 

Here is our list of the top most popular cakes to make for a bake sale, with a variety of choices from cookies to flapjacks, brownies and more! 

1 . Rocky Road

For an easy to make, no-bake cake, refrigerated trays such as tiffin and rocky road are ideal. The night before the bake sale mix up a batch of this chocolate treat, put it in the fridge to chill them cut into squares on the morning of the sale. If you want to be careful of allergies, make sure to swap the nuts out for something else crunchy, like crumbled biscuits or honeycomb.

2 . Muffins

Lets face it, you don’t exactly have to be a master chef to put together a batch of muffins, and if you’re struggling for time you can also get a pre-made muffin mixture to whip together the night before.

They are one of the easiest cakes to make, and you can even have your kids help stir the mixture.

For a healthy kick, try adding some blueberries to your muffins, and swap some of the sugar for sweetener.

3 . Cheesy Muffins

Like regular muffins, these are incredibly easy to make and offer a savoury alternative for any children who can’t have cakes.

4 . Brownies

Brownies are a classic favourite of the bake sale- and for good reason! Make your tray the night before then leave to cool overnight before cutting into squares in the morning, this will ensure that you’ll get nice even and smooth squares for each child.

If you want to fancy them up try adding some marshmallows or chocolate chips into the mix, or put some decorative icing on top of the tray after it’s cooled down.

5 . Cake Pops

Cake pops are also simple to make and allow you to get creative with decorations. Crumbled up a pre-baked cake (either store bought or baked at home) until you have fine crumbs, then mould the mixture into balls.

After dipping the balls into icing try adding sprinkles and candy to your liking, you can even make some cute cake pop animals if you’re feeling creatively inspired. 

6 . Flapjacks

If you have oats, butter and syrup then you’re ready to make flapjacks. This is one of those desserts that you can make in a pinch if you’ve left you bake until the last minute and don’t have any ingredients.

7 . Cookies

Once you’ve mastered the technique of making perfect chewy homemade cookies, you’ll be the most popular parent at the bake sale. The key is to keep an eye of your cookies while they’re baking, let them get crisp on the outside but still gooey in the middle.

While it seems intimidating to the novice baker, a lemon drizzle is really a simple bake, and is sure to be a hit with both the kids and the parents. 

If you’re a novice at decorating cakes then drizzle cakes are the perfect to start, simple pour your drizzle over the cake then grate some zest on top- and you’re done!
